Oral communication in the Chinese textbooks is the material carriers of oral communication curriculum and teaching, it plays an important role in the process of cultivating students’oral communication ability. The research of oral communication in the Chinese textbooks has practical significance to promote the improvement of the materials of textbooks and the teaching. This paper studies the oral communication in the Chinese textbooks of Jiangsu Education Publishing for grades7--9, and analysis the characteristics and deficiencies of this part’s arrangement, and gives the proposal to improve this part.This paper is composed of two parts, divided into four chapters. The first part is the introduction; it contains the reason of choosing this topic and the research of related issues and the object of this study and the methods to this study. The second part is the main part of this paper, divided into four chapters. The first chapter is the study of oral communication in the Chinese textbooks of Jiangsu Education Publishing for grades7-9. This chapter analysis the content of oral communication in the Chinese textbooks from the theme, the classic example, training requirements and the arrangement of activities, in the same time, it analysis the reflection of the target, which is proposed by<Chinese curriculum standards> to grades7-9,of oral communication. The second chapter focuses on the features and inadequacies of the arrangement of oral communication.The third chapter discusses the academic bases which should be followed in the arrangement of oral communication in Chinese textbooks. It discusses the revelation to the arrangement of Chinese textbooks from Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives, cognitive learning theory, constructivist theory, Anderson’s knowledge of category theory and Linguistics theory. The fourth chapter gives proposals to improve the arrangement of oral communication in the Chinese textbooks from optimize training objectives, knowledge description, training activities and build the evaluation mechanism.With the hope to making some meaningful exploration for the improvement of the Chinese textbooks.
