Fu Lei, a famous scholar, has been doing tireless research and development ontranslation, bringing some excellent foreign masterpieces into China, which has madegreat contributions to China’s foreign language translation. He has been crazy aboutliterature and art, forming his unique understandings on the literary theory, thethoughts of aesthetic education and the aesthetic educational practice. However, underthe influence of the shield caused buy his huge identity that is a great translator, hisaesthetic educational thoughts and practice has been ignored by the academic circles.As far as we concerned, from the angle of view of the study of aesthetic education,there are two effective ways to do intensive study on Fu Lei’s artistic ideas. One is todeeply dig rich aesthetic connotation in Fu Lei’s works. The other one is to reveal thereal value of his aesthetic thoughts.This paper re-evaluates Fu Lei, the person and his works, in the perspective ofaesthetic educational research. It reveals his aesthetic education’s specific content andunique value in four parts, which are the forming origin of the aesthetic education, themain contents, the practical results and the evaluation towards Fu Lei’s thoughts ofaesthetic education.Firstly, the first part of this paper mainly introduces the formation of Fu Lei’saesthetic education thoughts. This part analyzes his aesthetic education’s personalreasons and social reasons in three aspects; these are his personal temperament, lifeattitudes and academic literacy.Secondly, the second part of this paper is to mainly summarize the basiccontents of Fu Lei’s aesthetic education. He pursues“possess virtue and art and theexcellent personality”, emphasizes the concept art of the moral sermon, advocatingopen and the pursuit of the ideal personalities, which reflects his stress on moraleducation and at the same time his transcendence of ideal. His emphasis on the“emotional and rational balance”and his reasonable balance is one of his nucleuscontents in his aesthetic education. He emphasizes the reasonable balance and putsforward aesthetic education methods, those are the literary purify, the natural aesthetic education, the equality of static and dyadic art and the rational thinking, which revealsthat Fu Lei has a tendentious attitude towards the reality practice of his aestheticeducation. In addition, he pays much attention to the life aesthetic education that“lifeis also art”, which is one of his important attitudes towards his idea that aestheticeducation is suitable for the real life. The aesthetic attitudes and daily etiquette are thespecific manifestations of Fu Lei’s aesthetic education, which showed the rich contentthrough the above generalization and formed recognition and evaluation on the whole.Thirdly, the third part of this paper is from the practical probe of Fu Lei’saesthetic education. It presents his social aesthetic education practice in a systematicway, focuses on the school education and advocates the lifelong learning concept aswell as the household aesthetic education practice which is mainly based on the notesof“A Letter from Fu Lei”. It also reveals the exploration and attempts of Fu Lei’saesthetic education practice, shows his authentic self as a scholar, a teacher and afarther, and highlights the practical character according to the aesthetic education.Finally, this part evaluates the value significance of Fu Lei’s aesthetic educationfrom two aspects: one is the contributions and the evaluation; the other one is thelimitation and the insufficient. From the historical background, the former adapts anew contemporary angle to review the contributions and evaluation of the Fu Lei’saesthetic education. The latter points out its limitation and insufficient in three aspects,which contain the research methods, the functional cognition and Fu Lei’s statusorientation. It also reveals the unique evaluation and significance through thehistorical and contemporary context.
