In 1860s, the Western-style appeared in China. With purpose of resistingaggression, and reforming the old feudal system, the Western-style group began to setup many Western-style enterprises. And at the same time, lots of modern schools werebuilt, where the Western-style enterprises carried out educational activities, to assumetheir responsibilities on training talents. These schools introduced the Western scienceand technology, engaged foreign teachers to guide Chinese workers. And theimportant parts of the enterprises, that was its characteristic of running education. Theeducation carrying in the Western-style enterprises , not only satisfied needs of theenterprises’own survival and development , but also played an active role on thesociety , through training a number of talents , who were much-needed . It has provedthat the education happened in the Western-style enterprises, was very effective,which has left a glorious footprint in the history of modern Chinese education, andwould be a prelude to the education of modern Chinese enterprises. This article justwants to explore this subject , taking several Western-style enterprises for example ,so that looks for the education’footsteps carrying out in enterprises , which willprovide useful lessons for the development of modern enterprises’education ,and alsohas its academic value .This article just wants to explore the education in Western-style enterprisesduring the late Qing Dynasty, with two methods, namely historical methods anddocumentation method, divides into for parts as following. The first section of paper focuses on the reason of enterprises’education, through analyzing on how to resist theWestern powers military and economic aggression, the objective needs of thegeneration and development of Chinese modern industry and the responsible persons,who founded the enterprises, personally try to do education in the enterprises. Thesecond describes the Enterprises’new forms of educations during the late Qing Dynastyfrom two parts, namely establishing a new type schools, and sending students abroad .Then thethird one describes the characteristic and advantages of running Western-style schoolfrom following five parts, namely training talents for purpose, theory with practiceand teaching principles, bold introduction of foreign teachers, education on studyingabroad and the main theme of patriotism. The last one discusses: its historicalinfluence of Western-style enterprises during the late Qing Dynasty, throughtrained the first batch of scientific and technological talents for China, as well asmanagement personnel, it is an important part of education reform in the late QingDynasty, and would be a prelude to the education of modern Chinese enterprises.
