China and Korea belong to Chinese-character cultural circle and theyare both deeply influenced by traditional Confucian culture. The twocountries are geographical neighbors and culturally connected withfriendly contacts. They had communicated frequently since ancient times.Fahua Temple on Mt. Chi, in Weihai , had witnessed the longstandingcommunication between the two countries. Cui Zhiyuan, a student fromXinluo in Tang Dynasty, had made a great contribution to the history ofeducational exchange. The traditional Confucian values are advantagedfactors of the two countries’educational communication.When the Korean president Li Mingbo visited China in 2008, thetwo countries formally established the strategic partnership which moreeffectively promoted the two countries’educational exchange andcooperation. Since the two countries established diplomatic relationshipin 1992, with the support of the relevant government departments, thetwo countries’education authorities had consulted actively and carried outa series of educational exchange and cooperation in joint training ofinter-school students, short-term cultural experience group mutualdispatch, teachers’exchange, visiting scholars at dispatch, cooperation inrunning schools, the international academic conferences and Confuciusinstitute ect. These educational exchanges and cooperation cultivated alarge number of professional talents for the two countries’sustainable andhealthy relationship, further promoted the high-level communication and cooperation in education, deepened the two countries’relationship thathad existed and laid extensive talent foundation for the two countries’folk diplomacy. The education of Korean language becomes more andmore popular in China, while the Chinese language education isfashionable in Korea. It proves the broad prospect of the two countries’educational communication. The first Confucius institute established inSeoul which shows the two countries’governments attach importance tocultural communication between each other and have a desire to carry outthe further exchanges and cooperation. Confucius institute and KingSejong Institute indicate that the two countries will have glorious andbroad prospect in the field of educational exchanges and cooperation. Bythe end of 2011, the total number of the Korean overseas students inChina has reached 62442, accounting for 21% of all the overseas studentsin China. The number of the overseas students from Korea to China is ontop of list. The number of Chinese overseas students in Korea has reached57783, accounting for 68.9% in the total number of the overseas studentsin Korea, that is, there is one overseas student from China in every twooverseas students in Korea. The short-term cultural experience of twocountries has been carried out vigorously in recent years.Many problems are exposed in the process of the educationalexchanges and cooperation between China and Korea. Only by fullyunderstanding these problems and finding solutions can we develop thetwo countries’educational exchanges and cooperation better and faster. In order to be a good wicket in the subsequent exchanges, the Chinesegovernment and the universities should fully understand those subtlepolicy changes such as Korea universities admissions policies, universityquit system developed by Korea government, changes of the admisssionpolicy aiming at Chinese overseas students, changes of visa policy and soon. The main purpose of this thesis is the summary of achievements ineducational exchanges and cooperation since China and Koreaestablished diplomatic relations, analyzing the existing problems abouteducational exchanges and cooperation and finding the countermeasuresto these problems so that the educational exchanges and cooperationbetween China and Korea advanced persistently and healthily.Many problems are exposed in the process of the educationalexchanges and cooperation between China and Korea. How to understandthese existing problems and find solutions will make the two countries’educational exchanges and cooperation develop better and faster. In orderto be a good wicket in the subsequent exchanges, the Chinese governmentand the universities should fully understand those subtle policy changessuch as Korea universities admissions policies, university quit systemdeveloped by Korea government, changes of the admission policy aimingat Chinese overseas students, changes of visa policy and so on. The mainpurpose of this thesis is the summary of achievements in educationalexchanges and cooperation since China and Korea established diplomaticrelations, analyzing the existing problems about educational exchanges and cooperation and finding the countermeasures to these problems sothat the educational exchanges and cooperation between China and Koreacan promote persistently and healthily.
