Extracurricular reading is the important way that people gets knowledgeSince ancient times. It is complementary method that the students get knowledge, and it is the important way to expand the students’ knowledge, and it is the way to develop the students’ imagination. Extracurricular reading can cultivate the students’ aesthetic interest, improve the students’ ability to discern between good and evil, enrich the spiritual world of students, and extracurricular reading can promote students form a correct moral concept, deepen students’ moral emotion, make the students’ moral behavior internal. Extracurricular reading is very important for students’ study and growth even lifelong development. So extracurricular reading is more and more important in teachers’ and schools’ and students’ eyes.The text is divided into five parts:the first part is the introduction, mainly explain the reason why selected the topic of the research, the concepts which is related to the research, the reviews of the research, the theoretical basis of the research and the design of the research. The second part is the investigation of extracurricular reading of elementary students, taking a primary school in Yuzhong district for example. In this part, the paper introduces the reason why select the research object, the design of the questionnaire, and the basic information of the investigation. And then express the results of the investigation in four parts:the attitude of students to the extracurricular reading, the choice about the content of extracurricular reading, the utilization of resources in extracurricular reading, the attitude and guidance of teachers to the extracurricular reading of students. The third part is discussing the problems especially moral problems existing in the extracurricular reading according to the investigation, mainly including the conflict between extracurricular reading and examination-oriented education, neglect the moral value of extracurricular reading, the immoral phenomenon on reading guidance of teachers, and the shortage of the function of moral education in teachers’ guidance.The fourth part is the reason analysis of the existing problems in extracurricular reading, including students’ own limitations, the express mainly involve three aspects:the lack of consciousness and ability in teachers’ guidance of extracurricular reading, the impact of examination-oriented education.The fifth part is countermeasure studies, trying to solve these problems in three aspects. One is the selection of extracurricular reading content; two is the teachers’ moral guidance of the extracurricular reading; three is the creation of the environment for the extracurricular reading.
