Mathematical computing ability is one of the three basic mathematical abilities, which the junior school students should have. The work to cultivating themathematical computing ability has already attracted much attention. In order to do abetter job in training, we should first understand the junior school students’ level ofcomputing ability, the law of development and the features.Based on the investigation of junior school students’ level of development ofcomputing ability, by using the qualitative research methods, this article analyses theconnotation of computing ability, and all the basic ingredients are analyzed. Usingthe junior school mathematics textbook’ contents as the basis, and under the guidanceof the composition of the computing ability, we designed the test volumes to examinecomputing ability of junior e school students of each grade.Next, using quantitative research methods and the test volumes, we do some testson the students of the selected four different grades and different areas. At the sametime, through the analysis of testing results, we obtained the law of development andthe characteristic of the junior e school students’ computing abilityJunior school students’ overall development level of computing ability haveupward trend as students’ grade increase, and the trend of the capacity componentsand the overall trend is consistent, a slight decline appears in the development ofestimating ability in the ninth grade. The research about the development characteristics of computing ability mainlyincludes the following three aspects:1. There are some differences in the development of computing ability due to thedifferent gender, but not all of the developments of the ability ingredients aredistinctly different;2. The development of computing ability in urban and rural areashas some differences, and ability components’ developments in this regard not allhave obvious differences;3. Computing ability exists some differences in whethertutoring or not, and development of many capacity components shows significantdifferences.According to the findings, the paper gives some recommendations, and reflectsthe shortcomings in the paper writing.
