The Curriculum Standards of New Junior High School Biology puts forward three newcurriculum concepts of junior high school biology teaching: being geared to the needs of allstudents, improving students’ scientific literacy and advocating inquiry learning. This thesisaims at investigating the status of case teaching in junior high school biology teaching, whichis helpful to make up the drawbacks of the traditional lecture method based teaching andhighly embody the spirit of "People-oriented" and "Student-centered" teaching philosophy.The implementation of case teaching in junior high school has great significance to reflect thenew curriculum ideas, achieve three-dimensional teaching goals, stimulate students’ interestsand improve their abilities of analyzing and solving problems.This research studies biological case teaching mainly by the following methods: literatureanalysis, investigation, case study, observation and mathematical statistics. The purpose of theresearch is to know the present status of case teaching in junior high school biologyteaching and find out the present problems of this teaching method and their correspondingsolutions. Morever, the author also trys to write two classic lesson plans using case teachingto carry out the practice research in junior high schools.An investigation has been conducted in Yantai and Weihai with the self-madequestionnaire---The Questionnaire for the Application Status of Case Teaching by Junior HighSchool Teacher.106biology teachers in the junior high schools helped in this investigation.Besides the investigation, the author has done some analysis and discussions on the basis ofthe statistic results and interviews of the teachers.The questionnaire results are as following: the concept of case teaching has beenintroduced into the junior high school biology teaching, however, there are still manydisadvantages and deficiencies in the process of implementation, so it still didn’t reach theideal standard. All the teachers agree that there are some difficulties in case teaching, and themain reasons are as following: teachers’ personal qualities, class time control, lack of specificimplementation methods and lack of resources, etc. Teachers in various schools and withdifferent teaching ages have the similar status in case teaching.According to the investigation, this research summarized the problems of case teaching injunior high school presently, analyzed the main reasons, put forward the standard teaching steps in case teaching and the author also carried on the research in junior high school.The study indicates:(1) The case teaching can stimulate students’ interests and improve theirabilities of analyzing and solving problems;(2) It helps to well reach the three-dimensionalteaching targets;(3) It well reflects the new curriculum concepts and fully plays the role in theTeacher leading&Students subjective status;(4) Case teaching asks for high personalqualities and strong class-control ability of the biology teachers.Finally, to improve the research, the author puts forward the assumption for the furtherresearch.
