Learning motivation is a direct power for the promotion of student learning activity.Nowadays the problem of students’ weak learning motivation is very outstanding in thevocational schools, and it is an important cause of the gap between the students’ actual abilityand the actual demand. Vocational school students’ weak learning motivation is not anindividual phenomenon; it has become the main obstacles of restricting the vocational schoolsto improve the teaching quality. At present our country is vigorously promoting thedevelopment of vocational education. For the purpose of serving the socialist modernizationconstruction, we must train millions of high-quality workers and high-skilled talents as thegoal. To achieve the great goal and cultivate a large number of excellent workers andtechnical personnel for the service of socialist modernization, we must improve the quality ofeducation and teaching. The key is to stimulate students’ learning motivation.We conducted a sample survey of the students in Grade One and Grade Two in YantaiNo.1Vocational School with Huang Xiting and Song Zhuanmao’s questionnaire on learningmotivation intensity. We made descriptive and difference analyses of students’ motivationintensity with SPSS from the aspects of gender, grade, major, urban of rural sources, onlychild, family integrity and so on. And we got the first-hand data on the vocational schoolstudents’ current learning motivation. It provided data basis for stimulating students’ learningmotivation in this school and other vocational schools. The survey results showed:27.4%students have some problems about their learning motivation;67.8%have some problems anddifficulties;4.8%have serious problems. Overall more than70%students have problemsabout learning motivation. The scoring of the order from high to low is: too strong learningmotivation, problems on learning interest, plague of learning objectives, too weak learningmotivation. Looking from whole in the variable differences, vocational school students’learning motivation differences is not very obvious in gender, grade, professional, urban orrural sources and whether only child or not. But there were obvious differences in the familyintegrality. The learning motivation intensity of the vocational students in complete familiesis much higher than the ones in incomplete families. According to the analysis of theproblems and causes on vocational school students’ learning motivation questionnaires andinterviews, the author put forward the corresponding advice on improving vocational school students’ learning motivation level: to help students foster lofty goals and ideals, to improvethe rate of employment, to inspire students’ learning motivation, strengthen the curriculumreform, to lay stress on the basis and practicality of courses, to reform teaching methods, toenhance the study interests, to strengthen the guidance of learning methods, to develop goodlearning habits, to improve the synthetic quality of teachers, to reform evaluation methods andarouse students’ enthusiasm.
