According to the English Curriculum Standards for Senior HighSchool (experimental), the writing skill is one of the basic English skillsthat senior high school students must master. However, in English writingteaching in senior high school, we find that some students havedifficulty with English writing. The present study aims to analyze Englishwriting difficulty of senior high school students. It is intended to beexperimental.It is widely acknowledged that language is learned forcommunication and writing is an important means of communication.Nevertheless, the fact is that EFL students have long been overlookingwriting as a skill. The essential problem they have met in writing is thatthey have difficulty in developing ideas besides grammar andvocabulary difficulty. Hence, an effective method directed at dealingwith the students’ practical problems in writing is called for.This study reviews the current researches on learning difficulty andEnglish writing at home and abroad. Through surveys done byadministering questionnaires, experimentation and in-depth interviews,it concentrates on the main difficulties senior high school students havein English writing. This thesis also explores the causes of these difficultiesto find solutions to them. Based on some relevant theories, such asHumanistic Theory, Meta-cognition Theory, the Theory of Motivation andAttribution, Constructivist Learning Theory, the Theory of CooperativeLearning, the study tries to find effective ways of improving the writingability of some underachievers by means of group-study, individualinstruction and so on.Based on the empirical investigation and testing, the findings arelisted as follows:1. Giving more guidance on writing can significantly improve the performance of underachievers in English writing.2. Proper and relevant psychological counseling can bringnonintellectual factors such as interest, motivation and so on into fullplay in improving the performance of underachievers in English writing.3. Adopting appropriate teaching methods, resolving questions ofwriting strategy and providing training can get the underachievers inEnglish writing more actively involved in English writing and improve theirwriting skills.
