Research On The Problems Existing In The Administration Of Student Associations Of Higher Learning Institutions And The Countermeasures

Along with the development of higher learning institutions in China, the student associations are experiencing prosperity and playing an increasingly important role in their construction and improvement. As a forceful indicator of college students’ self-management, self-education and self-service, the student association makes a noticeable contribution to pushing forward the institutions’ cultural construction, democratic process, civilization, mutual progress of teachers and students, application of the teaching theories and their stability. However, the theoretical research on the student association still can not catch up with its rapidly increasing number, and thus fail to provide effective guidance to its practice. As a result of it, the student association can’t develop in a sound and harmonious fashion. In this context, it is highly necessary to conduct a theoretical research, obtain some beneficial experience and reflect upon the administration strategies so as to effectively guide and advance their growth.By comparing the Chinese and foreign student associations of higher learning institutions in their history, administration tactics and theoretical researches, this thesis has defined the concepts, categories and basic features of the student association, and made a survey of the basic theories as to how to improve the research on and administration of the student association. Then, by researching and analyzing the current situations of the student association of five higher learning institutions, the thesis has made an objective exploration of the problems existing in their administration under the current circumstances. Besides, an analysis has been made of the measures to be taken to strengthen their management.This paper argues that the school administrators’ consciousness chiefly accounts for the problems existing in their administration. The administrators’ abilities of estimating, cognizing and analyzing the situation, and drawing on relevant resources need to be enhanced now that they directly influence the amount of attention and investment, and the administration strategies. With these issues in mind, I maintain that the improvement of administrating the student association should be fulfilled in the following six aspects: cultivate the awareness of stressing the significance and situation of the student association development; adhering to the principles of "five combinations" and transparent administration; transform the monotonous executive administration system into a multi-directional and multi-dimensional administration system; increase the cost of administration including granting material and emotional support; adapt the administrative strategies to the types of student associations; create new modes of student association development and activate its vigor.
