Small-class teaching theories and models have been gradually improved and perfected inChina since the year1996when it was first put into trial in Shanghai. On the micro level,small-class teaching with the outstanding characteristic of small scale provides teachers with amore agreeable teaching environment so that it is easier for them to carry out their teachings.On the macro level, small-class teaching helps promote equality in education, enhanceteaching efficiency as well as encourage democratization and individuation in education,which creates a more harmonious teaching environment. However, small-class teaching is notpopularly adopted in China due to the restrictions from low level of economic developmentand shortage in teaching resources. Meanwhile, with changes in teaching contents and forms,the small-class teaching model is increasingly welcomed by parents and students. Besides, itcan well adapt to the new situation for individualized talents. Therefore, small-class teachingis imperative in order to meet parents’ individualized education demands and the requirementsof quality education among the public, which can develop the students’ sense of innovationand individualized gifts as well.This paper, using the frontier theory of small-class teaching, systematically studies theplatform for people’s all-around development provided by small-class teaching as well asways to realize it in elementary education. The followings are required(Ⅰ) transforming educational ideas.(Ⅱ) reforming educational evaluations.(Ⅲ) innovating teaching forms. Develop the students’ characters by cooperativeteaching, activity teaching, multi-media teaching, etc.(Ⅳ) remodeling the teachers’ roles in teaching.The basic theory of small-class teaching is closely related to humanism education and thetheory of human’s overall development. Small-class teaching is the practice of educationhumanism and the spirit of small-class teaching belongs to the people-oriented humanisticeducation spirit. The human-oriented education idea is a kind of education aiming at people.For individuals, people themselves are the foremost purpose and we must have our valuesfulfilled and perfected. Everyone has his own characteristic value and dignity that has to betaken seriously in teaching activities. In traditional education, group benefit is more important than personal interest and the social function of the individual overweighs its human dignitywhile in small-class teaching, every student will be equally appreciated for their own values.
