English textbooks are the important resource for English teaching.They are compiled by experts. But these materials are not suitable for allstudents. This requires that every teacher must adapt according to hisstudents’ circumstance and characteristic,so that every teacher cantech students in accordance with their aptitude. This dissertationresearches into processes to effectively adapt English textbooks,usingOxford English(Shanghai Edition) as an example. It is also in order tomake good use of the Oxford textbooks, meet the needs of moststudents development and meet the basic needs of some students.This dissertation starts with the definition of concepts that appear inthe research. Then elaborate the idea of English textbook adaptation inhigh grade in primary school. It followed by analysis of cases of Englishtextbook adaptation in high grade in primary school.The dissertation is divided into the following four chapters:Chapter One is literature review. Defining the concept of textbookand textbook adaptation. Elaborated on existing literature in the Englishprinciple of English textbook adaptation and present situation of Englishtextbook adaptation in high grades in primary school.Chapter Two introduces the idea of English textbook adaptation. Todiscuss English textbook adaptation in high grades in primary schoolfrom the basis, intent and methods.Chapter Three is analysis of English textbook adaptation in highgrades in primary school with cases from listening, speaking, readingand writing. It introduces how to adapt the textbooks-Oxford English(Shanghai Edition).In the process of this research, a lot of teachingcases and experience are accumulated.Chapter Four, the last chapter of this dissertation concludes withsome reflection of implementation and summary of experience, provides suggestions for the other teachers.
