An Analysis Of The Key Competences Cultivation In Senior High School English Textbook(NSEFC)

Developing students' English key competences is one of the major initiatives which are taken to deepen the English curriculum reform and also an important goal of current English classroom teaching.The successful implementation of classroom teaching depends on the development and use of teaching material,so the analysis of teaching material from the four dimensional objectives of English key competences can help teachers develop their English teaching better and improve their teaching quality.As one of the widely used teaching material,New Senior English For China embodies the cultivation of students' language competence,cultural character,thinking quality and learning ability.This paper chooses book 1 of New Senior English For China as the study sample and two English teachers' teaching examples as the teaching case samples.And it tries to use text analysis method,classroom observation method and interview method to explore the content of book 1 of New Senior English For China.Besides,it also analyzes how these two teachers use this book to cultivate students English key competences through two concrete teaching cases.Finally it points out the practical teaching strategies about English key competences cultivation.A conclusion is drawn after the analysis of the teaching material.The parts of Reading,Learning about Language and Using Language in the textbook New Senior English For China reflect the cultivation of students' language competence.The parts of Reading,Using Language and Reading for Fun reflect the cultivation of students' cultural character.The parts of Reading,Learning about Language,Using Language and Project reflect the cultivation of students' thinking quality.The parts of Reading,Learning about Language,Using Language,Summing Up,Learning Tip and Checking yourself reflect the cultivation of students' learning ability.Through the analysis of the teaching cases,this paper also finds that teachers can study thetextbook deeply and use it creatively to cultivate students' English key competences.
