Design And Realizaiton Of Computer-Aided PBL System For Chinese English Majors’ Computer Courses

The informatization of education is characterized by its close connection with the traditional teaching practices and its new possibilities for modernization of education, which is strongly buttressed by computer technology, multimedia technology and communication network technology. Project-Based Learning (PBL), as a new model of teaching and learning, has been widely adopted into classroom teaching, but not yet to its full swing. This can be overcome by the incorporation of the notion of informatization of education into PBL. This article presents a new perspective of using PBL in teaching by designing a computer-aided PBL system for Chinese English majors’computer courses, and checks its practice in a real teaching situation. The system is based on Web-server, Net Framework and SQL-Sever.The major parts of the thesis include:ONE:The status quo of implementations of Chinese English majors’computer courses. In this part, the problems and shortcomings of implementations of computer courses are drawn from researches on the National Curriculum, questionnaires on employers, curriculums of various colleges, and teaching practices.TWO:PBL system. By analyzing PBL in teaching practices, this part points out that PBL cannot be fully realized in the traditional classroom teaching and a computer-based PBL system may come to the rescue.THREE:The design of a computer-aided PBL system for Chinese English majors’computer courses. The system is composed of various modules—modules for project member’s logon, project management, learning materials management, communications between project members, submission of final products, evaluation of projects, etc.FOUR:The realization of the PBL system. This part focuses on the computer technologies needed for realizing the PBL system:Web-server, Net Framework and SQL-Sever.FIVE:The practical use of the PBL system. The system is put into use by the computer course for English majors "Multimedia Technology and Applications" This part checks the use of the PBL system in a real situation and explores possibilities for further development.
