Education should face all the students and face all the aspects of the students. Education should let all the students grow up healthily and become the constructors and the successors of our nation. Ii is the obligatory responsibility of the educators. However, the problem of underachieving students is concerned by lots of educators today. If we can’t solve the problem effectively, we will bring in a heavy strain on families and the society development. Meanwhile we won’t promote the development of the quality-oriented education as well. So it is urgent to study the causes of underachieving students and eradicate the phenomenon of underachieving students. In this paper, we focus on the need for the study of the problem of underachieving students. We attempt to study the problem of underachieving students from the aspects of the definition, the theoretical basis, the realistic basis as well as the causes. In addition, we propose the strategies of solving the problem of underachieving students. We hope it could play a positive role in the educational work of transforming underachieving students. We wish to promote the more harmonious and fuller development of families and the society.This paper proceeds as follow:the first chapter is the proposal of the phenomenon of underachieving students and the study significance of underachieving students. We mainly state the proposal of underachieving students from their influence on educational effect, their ability features and the proper ways of treating them. The second chapter is the connotation of underachieving students. And then we discuss the theoretic and realistic basis of the study of underachieving students. The third chapter is the various causes of underachieving students. We mainly discuss from the intellectual factors and the non-intellectual factors. The intellectual factors include cognitive, memory and will etc. The non-intellectual factors include psychology, emotions and attitude and so on. The fourth chapter is about the transformational strategies of underachieving students. We mainly elaborate from the aspects of the transformational principles and methods.In a word, the problem of underachieving students is a long, complicated and comprehensive issue. It needs the efforts of families, schools, the society as well as students themselves. Only by this, could we accomplish the transformation of them. At the same time we can promote the all-round, healthy and harmonious development of students as well as the better and quicker development of quality-oriented education.
