Elementary education in China is subject to the profound impact of the knowledge-centered teaching. As the long-standing teaching practice focusing on imparting knowledge and know-how has been narrowing the scope of teaching to knowledge, the teaching methods have become rigid and simple pursuit of teaching "efficiency" has caused separation of teaching from living world. Communicative teaching theory, based on Marxist communication theory, intends to explore from the perspective of ontology the root causes and corresponding solutions to the problems in current teaching practice. Communicative teaching theory reinterprets teaching from the high degree of subjective philosophy and explains the long-existing tangle of subjectivity of teaching and learning. Communicative teaching theory not only has a strong theoretical explanatory power to instill vitality for the development of communicative pedagogy; but also practical value to guide teaching process which will break the isolation of teaching and life and provide the possibility of a one’s full development. Consequently, communicative teaching has become the hot concern of the teaching circle and there has been numerous expositions relating to this. This paper aims to apply the prevalent communicative teaching theory to the teaching practice of middle school ideological and political course, and further analyze and solve the current problems in teaching the course. By drawing from Marxist human studies and communicative practice theory, Habermas’communicative conduct theory and Jaspers discourse on teaching and communication, the paper pursues to probe into the reality of the current middle school ideological and political course teaching, to construct communicative teaching of the course and strive for feasible proposals to this teaching.The paper consists of four parts:The first part deals with the basis of establishing communicative teaching of the ideological and political course, from the perspective of theoretical and practical analysis.The second part is an overview of the communicative teaching of the ideological and political course, focusing on its definition, specification as well as the basic features.The third part concerns about the front-line views on communicative teaching of the ideological and political course. This analysis is carried out from the aspect of applying such hot topics as "class teaching,""inter-subjectivity" and "into life.’The final part elaborates on the approaches to realize communicative teaching of the ideological and political course, based on the analysis of the problems in current teaching. As to communicative subjects, harmonious teacher-student relationship should be established to optimize the teaching; as to communicative content, isolation of the teaching texts and living world should be shattered and attention should be attached to life; communicative mode should give weight to teaching-learning dialogue and communicative aim should pursue symbiotic development of teaching and learning.
