A Study Of The Relationship Between The Culture Of College And The Development Of College Students In New Campus

Abstract:At the beginning of twenty-first Century, with the expansion of higher education, our country has entered into the phase of higher education popularization. In order to improve the conditions and quality of running schools, a number of universities evoked a wave of building new campus. New campus, which changes the organization structure of the university, may further lead to the change of the organizational culture. In the constitution of "university-second college" two level management, the second college is the main place for teaching and researching in university, and the culture of the college is the important component of university culture. In this background, this article takes the new campus of Sichuan Normal University as the specific case, explores the influence of the culture in the new campus to student development in the perspective of the organizational change.The thesis concludes five chapters:Chapter1:Introducing the origin of the research. It explains the reason of choosing this subject, outlines the research background, specifies the questions to research, illustrates the significance of investigation, defines the core concepts of new campus, culture of college, college student development and so on. It also reviews and analyzes the domestic and abroad research on college culture and the construction of the university culture in new campus. Finally, on the basis of above, it raises the topic which needed to be studied further.Chapter2:Entering into the scene as the introduction of the research process. It clarifies the selection criteria of the object of my study and its basic situation, introduces the specific research methods and techniques of this paper, and explains the normativity of this paper from the reliability, validity, popularity and the ethical issues’handling of this paper. At the end of this chapter, it encloses a copy of interview’s diary to express the harvest in the process of the research.Chapter3:The description of the present situation-new campus, fresh life. It talks about the fresh lives of undergraduates of the college of Faculty of Education Science of Sichuan Normal University in new campus from six following aspects: modern and unified construction; the happiness of "ivory tower " and the helpless of "isolated island "; failure to see the teachers and the seniors; college distribution in campus:resource integration, interdisciplinary and interpersonal communication; system design:the tutorial system and the class teacher in charge system; and ceremony:building a bridge. This chapter shows the influence of the new campus to college culture, and further to student development.Chapter4:The analysis of the present situation. Firstly, it treats the moving of college to the new campus as organizational change, analyzes the influence of the organizational change to the organizational culture-the culture of the college. The college culture of the Faculty of Education Science College in new campus is facing challenges and opportunities at the same time. As a grass-roots organization, Faculty of Education Science College takes active measures to improve the construction of College Culture. Secondly, organizational culture has influence on each organization members. College culture of the Faculty of Education Science College in new campus has double-sided influence on student development.Chapter5:Reflecting and suggestion. In the special background of new campus, the conflict between college culture and student development is obvious. According to the specific situation, this paper analyzes how to make the construction of college culture and the student development form bidirectional construction relationship from following three aspects:the university shall make overall planning and appropriate decentralization of authority, the second college shall be active and possess prominent characteristics, students shall improve their participation.
