Literary classics is an important part of the Chinese textbooks ofjunior high school. It is not only a requirement of the New CurriculumStandard but also conforming to the characteristics of first languageacquisition. The teaching of literary classics has always been positiveand very essential in passing down Chinese traditional culture,improving the students’ Chinese accomplishment, building up theircharacter and upgrading their comprehensive ability in Chinese reading,speaking and writing.At present, the teaching of Chinese classics reading is poorlypracticed in most junior high schools, especially in the rural area. Threereasons are mainly observed in this thesis. Firstly, the negative effectof the rigid educational system and the lack of reading materials.Secondly, a large part of teachers have little knowledge of classics andimproper teaching methodology. Thirdly, while China has a large ocean ofclassics in ancient language, the students have little practice inclassics reading. The above mentioned three reasons have led to the poorcondition in classics teaching in rural areas, that is, the primitiveclassics recommendation period.In order to improve the situation, the author tried to explore thesubject in the following three aspects: the teaching system, the teachers’notion and the teaching method. First and foremost, to improve theteaching evaluation system to focus more on students’ all-arounddevelopment. Secondly, to restore the teachers’ role of guiding not giving,that is, the teachers should improve their notion and knowledge inclassics reading and teaching as well as their specific teaching measures,such as setting down integrated objectives and proper guiding plans inclassics reading. Thirdly, to highlight the students’ subjectiveinitiatives by inspiring their whole hearted interests in love and readingour national classics.
