The curriculum of IT (Information Technology) in senior high school is a requiredcurriculum, which is based on the curriculums of compulsory education and meant to enhancehigh school students’ information literacy. Compared with other subjects, IT does not onlyrequire the students to master the knowledge, but also apply it in practical operation. Accordingto the new-curriculum reform, the requirement of “enhancing high school students’ informationliteracy” should be reflected in the three aspects, namely knowledge and competence, processand method and affective attitude and value. All the above add to the hardship through theassessment of this curriculum. It has been nine years since “The High School Information Technology New CurriculumStandard (Experimental)” was promulgated in February,2003and experimented in the fourprovinces of Guangdong, Shandong, Hainan and Ningxia. Although IT teachers have acceptedand performed the new ideas during the reform, owing to the specialty of the course and theeffect by long existing exam-oriented education system, there are still some defects in theassessment of the curriculum. Some teachers focus more on teaching than assessment, more onassessment than thinking, and more on forms than methods. Therefore, how to improve theassessment of the IT curriculum in senior high so as to better its function in inspiring the studentsis where the aim of the study lies. The paper finds out the problems in the IT curriculum of senior high through questionnairesand interviews, based on which it then accomplishes the following researches by joiningmultivariate assessment. On the one hand, this paper organizes the related theories about multivariate assessment andthe knowledge structure of the curriculum and finally comes up to the four types of learning thecourse, that is, learning for knowledge, for skills, for creativity and for integrated practice. What’s more, this text puts forward the designing of building the multivariate assessment systemof senior high IT course according to the characteristics of the above four types. The systeminvolves the assessing subjects--the students themselves, the teachers, other members in a studygroup, outstanding student representatives, experts and computers. The system also realizes themultivariate assessment in the students’ learning attitudes, operations, creativities, integrated practice reports and regular tests. The system combines quantitative-qualitative evaluation,process-result evaluation and the assessment by assignments done both as paperwork and oncomputers. On the other hand, the designing has been tested and performed in Grade One and Two atNo.15Senior High of Qingdao and various assessments have been performed according to thefour types of learning: for knowledge, for skills, for creativity and for integrated practice. As aresult, most students think highly of the multivariate assessment according to the analysis of thetry out result. The final aim of studying the application of the multivariate assessment in the IT curriculumin senior high is to make it more scientific, to inspire the students’ interest in learning anddevelop the students’ abilities in self-directed learning and self-assessment so as to improve theirinformation literacy.
