Traditional writing teaching method is that students write a composition underteacher’s instruction after they study a sample composition. However, most teachersfeel no specific methodology to follow for composition depicting sceneries. Studentsalso feel difficult for depicting sceneries. According to the feature of elementarystudents’ thought development which is mainly imaginal thinking, we try to improvethe level of students’ scenery composition through special training students’ imaginalthinking. To assess the effect of imaginal thinking training, I set up an evaluation standardfor elementary depicting scenery composition. I selected100students whose Chineseaverage grades between80and100in two exams from8classes of Grade Four in anelementary school, and divide these students into two teams. One team was trained by“depicting sceneries by imaginal thinking”, and the other team was trained bytraditional method of depicting sceneries. In the experiment, two teams were asked to writing with a given topic aboutscenery. The results obtained were considered as the “before training grade”. Thentwo teams would accept30courses training with different method, and writecompositions with another given topic about scenery. These results would be treatedas the “after training grade”. All of the grades are obtained through the sameevaluations standard. We will assess the effect of the “depicting sceneries by imaginalthinking” method on students composing through difference examination of the twogroups of grades. The result of the experiment showed:1. Both methods improved students’ composition depicting scenery, while “depictingsceneries by imaginal thinking” method improved significantly in statistics.2. In the aspect of total grade, both methods improved students’ compositiondepicting scenery, while “depicting sceneries by imaginal thinking” methodimproved significantly in statistics.3. In the aspect of item of content,“depicting sceneries by imaginal thinking”method improved significantly in statistics.4. In the aspect of item of writing skills,“depicting sceneries by imaginal thinking”method improved significantly in statistics.5. In the aspect of item of expressing emotions,“depicting sceneries by imaginalthinking” method improved significantly in statistics.6. In the aspect of item of writing mistakes, there are no significant differencebetween “before training grade” and “after training grade” in both teams.
