Heavy academic burden of primary and secondary students is to perplex ourcountry’s quality education at the stage of elementary education, and it is crucial todevelop the innovative spirit and practical ability of students. For a long time, studentshave been learning in a passive position, due to the education concept deviation,unreasonable education evaluation system and strong utilitarian entrance examinationfor the purpose of learning, hence academic burden becomes heavier, not conducive tothe cultivation of talents and the development of intelligence, and it affects adolescenthealth of body and mind for long-term development. Lighten the students’ overweightburden, vigorously promote quality education, and explore the root from the emphasison education in the comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development, to theburden of the students in-depth investigation and study, which will provide a basis forthe local education administration department to update the concept of formulatingrelevant policies and measures, new data for the schools, teachers to establish moderneducational ideas, to strengthen scientific management ideas, a reference for the parentsto parent-child education, and a guidance for the students to learn happily. All themeasures above have important theory and realistic meaning.This paper adopts questionnaire and interview methods to investigate and study theacademic burden circumstance of Dalian City secondary school. It tries to understandthe current situation of secondary students’ academic burden, carries on the datastatistics and comparison, finds out the problems of the students’ academic burden,analyzes the root cause of the problems, and finally puts forward the correspondingcountermeasures and recommendations. The whole thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is Introduction. It mainly elaborated the background andsignificance of this research, and the previous research results of domestic and foreignresearchers are reviewed and summarized. It also defines the concept of academicburden.The second chapter introduces the Research Methods and Research Processes. InDalian city, certain three secondary schools are selected as the object of study. A surveystudy of academic burden circumstances is conducted through questionnaire andinterview.The third chapter is the Survey Results and Root Cause Analysis. It presents thesurvey results of Dalian City secondary school academic burden, draws the conclusionthat the overall academic burden is still too heavy, and mean time individual academicburden varies due to differences of the area, school, grade, sex, family, teachers’teaching quality, and student achievement situation, learning ability. It deeply analyzes the root causes of the academic burden problem from three aspects-school, family andsociety.The fourth chapter is about Countermeasures and Suggestions on how to solvesecondary school students’ academic burden problems. The schools should establishscientific ideology of modern education, competence, evaluation, and standardization ofteaching behavior; teachers should establish modern teaching concept, improve theirown competence, improve classroom teaching, and improve teaching quality andefficiency; students should establish a correct view of study, master scientific learningmethod and develop learning capability; parents should improve their competence withthe concerted effort of school, and promote the rational family education. The wholesociety should construct diversified talent view, create a harmonious educationalenvironment; should promote the balanced development of education; should reform theevaluation of education, the enrollment and examination system, and construct the newevaluation system; should widen the road to success, vigorously develop the occupationeducation.
