STS education is a new science education philosophy which is emerging inthe wave of the world education reform in recent years.Some countries ofEurope and America have begun to attach importance to the study of STSeducation since the1970s.The Ministry of Education promulgated “the highschool biology curriculum standard (experiment)”(“the standard”) which paysmore attention to STS education.It fully embodies philosophy of STS educationin the parts of philosophy and goals of the curriculum,content standards,teaching suggestions,suggestions of the writing of the textbook and so on.Thepaper picked up four versions of the textbooks (compulsory) which are incontext of the new curriculum reform as research objects.It summaries andcompares the presentation of STS education of different versions in order to findthe differences of the selection and the organization form between the fourversions of textbooks.It consists of six parts.Introduction introduces the background,questions,methods and thesignification of the research.The second part introduces the connotation,feature and content of STS education.It also discussed the dynamic of the field of study that included thecurrent research of the high school biology textbooks and STS education.The third part briefly describes the research objects,and the reason forselecting the comparison of the four versions of the textbooks (compulsory).The fourth part is the main part of the study.Firstly the author analyzes thenumber of the columns and the description of texts.Secondly,Comparaing thechoice of the six areas of biological science and technology,environmentalissues,engineering and agricultural production,medicine and human health,daily life, social issues of the four versions of textbooks.Finally,the authorsummaries and compares the presentation of STS education of differentversions,does quantitative statistics and summs up the textbook features of eachversion.It has a certain similarity in the choice of the content of STS educationamong four versions of textbooks.Although the choice of specific knowledge isdifferent, but better to implement the requirements of the contentstandards.Otherwise,the presentation of the content of STS education showstheir own characteristic among different versions of the textbooks.Differentcolumns has different function.There is difference among the description andpresentation of the same content.It shows their own characteristic in thepresentation of the content of STS education,“PEP”and“Jiangsu”set more abundant columns and closer to the students’ life,“Zhejiang” and “China Map”set thiner columns and has a certain degree of difficulty.Other,textbook writersand teachers should pay more attention on STS education,implement seriouslythe relevant requirements of the standard,draw lessons from the characteristicof content of STS education in other versions of textbooks and reasonablychoice the resources of STS education in order to implement STS educationbetter....
