Higher vocational education is boosted up in China in these years. English has become one of the standards to measure the ability of a person. As a skilled talents cultivation base, the English effective teaching in Dongguan Polytechnic, has caught more and more attention of the society. The study on the English effective teaching in Dongguan Polytechnic, not only may enrich the teaching content of the college education, but also advice the English effective teaching in the college.This dissertation mainly analyzes the existing situation of English teaching in Dongguan Polytechnic by means of a survey in terms of students, teachers, teaching material and the evaluation system. As to the students, they do not have enough interests as well as weakness in learning English. Their foundation is not good and cannot get favorable results. And the structure of the teachers is not reasonable. The college is lack of qualified and professional teachers with backward concepts. The content of the teaching material too difficult for the most of the students, It is not relevant to the students’major very much. Otherwise, the evaluation system is too simple to measure the ability of the students.In this dissertation, the author makes a study of some measures to solve the problems existing in English teaching in Dongguan Polytechnic. Hence some measures and suggestions to solve the problems are put forward mainly focusing on the following four aspects, namely:the improvement of the teachers’professional quality, effective class teaching, effective classroom management and the diversification of evaluation system.
