As a new development of Cognitive Learning Theory, Autonomous Learning Theory is popular at present in the world. It interprets education and teaching in a new way, providing a new visual angle for educators. However, the high school teaching in physics now is directed by Behaviorism, which is adapted to the teaching whose purpose is to teach knowledge, but all those cannot realize the basic goal of education.The value of education lies in developing the quality of human beings. Autonomous Learning is the necessary element and guarantee of the development of a person, and how to improve students’ autonomous learning ability is a question needed to be answered now. And it is vital to reform the present teaching and think over the teaching design.Behaviorism Learning Theory is still the main directing theory in the physics teaching of high school in China. Since it is adapted to the teaching aimed at spreading knowledge, students’ ability of autonomous learning doesn’t develop well., and their learning passion isn’t aroused, making them lacking the creative spirits and the ability of solving practical problems individually. However, in the society requiring new learning styles, only those who possess the ability of autonomous learning can adapt to society and create a nice future, therefore, autonomous learning must be formed in learning physics.The goal of the New Curriculum Reform is to change the tend of the teaching, which focuses more on teaching knowledge, emphasize the forming of active attitude to learning, and makes the process of acquiring knowledge and skills become the process of knowing how to learn and forming the value. Changing the situation that over emphasizes passive learning and mechanical practice, encouraging active learning, developing students’ability of searching for information. dealing with information, acquiring new knowledge, analyzing problems, solving problems, communicating and cooperating are also included in the goal. Therefore, as an educator, the thought of developing students’ autonomous learning is very important.The outline of the essay:First, analyze the present situation of autonomous learning at home and abroad, indicating autonomous learning has a long history at home and abroad, and also analyze the concepts of autonomous learning and autonomous learning ability in detail, to express it is necessary to apply autonomous learning to high school physics learning. Second, learn about some problems existing in high school physics teaching through a survey, that is, emphasizing knowledge teaching but neglecting the forming of ability, etc. showing some strategies to develop students’autonomous learning. At last, analyze how to carry out autonomous learning in physics specifically.
