With the sustainable development of society and the arrival of learning society, ithas become the call of era to cultivate students’ ability to acquire knowledgeindependently. Therefore, to cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability hasbecome an inevitable requirement. In the teaching context, classroom teaching is themain channel for autonomous learning ability development, so in classroom teaching,to cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability becomes an important task in theteaching practice. This paper first presents the development of autonomous learning, itssignificance, definition and characteristics. Then it researches into the theoreticalfoundation, influencing factors and other related theories. In this paper, aquestionnaire survey is conducted to learn about the autonomous learning of physicsin high schools. Results show that most of the students’ learning motivation comesfrom external factors; their consciousness of autonomous learning is weak; and theydo not have the habit of learning independently. In their learning processes, the abilityin self-planning, self-supervision, self-control is weak; they lack the ability ofself-reflection, self-summary and self-evaluation in physics class. On the other hand, although the teacher’s training strategies for the development of student’s autonomouslearning ability have be improved, there is still room for further improvement.Through the investigation of the present situation and correlating the autonomouslearning theories and teaching practice, this paper tries to present theoretical supportfor autonomous learning ability and practical strategies for physics classroomteaching in high schools, such as helping students to develop their interest in physicsand establish their self-confidence. This paper also attempts to figure out the ways forteachers to change their teaching strategies so as to let the students become the masterof study, to change the teaching content and refer it to the reality as well as to changethe teaching views and establish an equal relationship between teachers and students.Hopefully, this study will be beneficial for effective physics classroom teaching andbe helpful for the cultivation of students’ autonomous learning ability.
