Existing literature study on University-Industry Relationship (UIR) mainly about the enterprise, especially about enterprise-led technological innovation, and then institutional innovation, but rarely focus on universities, much less on promotion of universities’scientific research achievement. This thesis did an empirical study to exam whether there is promotion between UIR and university research. The sample data comes from56universities in Jiangsu province (including11key universities,27ordinary colleges&universities, and18vocational colleges as well), and1223enterprises related with them in2007to2012. The main independent variable is the numbers of universities’collaboration with enterprises during the period, while the main dependent variables are9output of universities’ scientific research, including amount of research projects, published monograph, academic papers, scientific payoffs, incomes based on research, and so on.Analysis consists of three parts. First statistic the numbers of all universities’UIR. and describe the collaboration relations between universities and enterprises with Social Network Analysis (SNA); Second narrate the56universities’output of scientific research in2010and then evaluate their performance respectively by the9indictors mentioned above, in this part, all the figures can be found in Higher schools science and technology statistics compiled in2010, which published by the national ministry of education:Part three, based on the data from the previous two parts, correlation analysis and multivariate regression analysis are adopted to empirically test the promotion effect that the numbers of UIR brought to universities’ scientific research output.The final result of this study shows that, for most scientific research output indictors, UIR numbers definitely had a promotion effect, especially for key variables, such as amount of publications, award-winning scientific and technological achievements et. al., then we can draw a conclusion that this research has verified our initial assumption, promotion effect do exist between UIR numbers and scientific research output of colleges&universities. Nevertheless, there are still some defects remained. As we know, for all colleges&universities, the three traditional functions are including brain cultivation, scientific research and societal service, but in this study we only concern the latter two, while ignoring the quality of brain cultivation, which is the most important issue for colleges&universities. Therefore, for UIR between universities and enterprises, we must realize that both positive and negative effects may coexist in the process of college development, what we should do is try to maximize the positive and minimize the negative.
