The21st century will be the century of human rely on knowledge innovation andsustainable development, the world will enter the era of knowledge economy. Asone of the most rapid development of Natural Science in today’s society, its action isobvious in many fields,such as science and technology, health etc. The biologicalscientific literacy has become a part of science literacy indispensable.The junior high school is the key stage to develop science literacy. Throughsurveying biological science literacy of the junior high pupils, we can understandbiological science literacy’s level of them at present,which is advantageous toimplement the new curriculum smoothly, thus promoting elementary education’sreform,and the healthy development of science education.Biological science literacy is considered as the theme of the thesis. According totheoretical analysis of science literacy, of biological science literacy, and make adeeply thinking on how to improve students’ biologyical science literacy.Based on the related texts,the thesis discusses definition of science literay,deconstructs the composition of science literacy, then discusses the definition ofBiological science literacy, defines the composition of Biological science literacy,and points out the structure of Biological science literacy. It is a structural systemthat is made up of knowledge literacy, methods literacy,ability literacy, qualityliteracy, consciousness literacy.The survey of science literacy in our country is in the exploring syage. Thesurvey of the middle school students on science literacy is in the initial stage.Based on the Ministry of education in2003November of the people’s Republicof China promulgated the "ordinary junior high school biology curriculum standard(Experiment)", and “The Questionnaire of2001On the Scientific Literacy of thePublic”, I draw up “The Questionnaire Of Junior High Pupils On Biologic ScienceLiteracy” and survey junior high pupils in4middle school of Jinxiang County in different towns. The results show that the advantages of junior high pupils onbiological science literacy lie in: the basic facts of biology the students replies aremuch higher than the pulic,which indicate the students have good knowledge literacy.According to the concrete situation, the students can choice commonly biologymethods, which reflects student’s good biological method literacy. The students candistinguish the pseudo-science, can know the importance of environmentalprotection,which indicate they have certain biological quality. The deficiencies lie in:the level of the students’ information literacy is low, the innovative ability is lack of,the biological comsciousness literacy is insuffcient, the biological ability literacy isnot good.Integrated the theory and practice of biology teaching countermeasures andrecommendations in four areas: families, schools and community to create a goodeducational environment; positive reforms in the teaching process; improve teachers’training; development of curriculum resources. Certain practical significance of thestudy to improve the promotion of of Jinxiang junior high school biological scienceliteracy.
