The Study On The Ethic Action Of Social Work Students In Practicum

With China’s rapid economic development, the development lag between social construction and economic development has become increasingly evident. Having a unique function in the social construction, social work has also been supported by the government and develops rapidly. However, in the college of social work education, the teaching of professional ethics do not get the attention it deserves, an important aspect of the social work profession ethics is the high-quality developedtalent. Social Work Practice as an important platform for professional practice plays an important role in the internalization of the students’professional ethics.Based on the above thinking, this paper makes the ethic action of the MSW students in practicum as the study subject, qualitative research interviews as the main way for the research methods, ethical awareness, ethical judgment, and ethical decision making as the study dimensions, to analysis the current situation of the ethic action of the MSW students in practicum.The first main part of this paper is to analysis the current situation of the ethic action of the MSW students in practicum. The survey found that the performances of the ethic action of MSW students in practicum on the three ethical dimensions are mainly on the following aspects. The first,about the ethic awareness, is the lack of ethics knowledge of students and ethical sensitivity. The second,about the ethic judgment, is the problem of compliance with the professional ethic principles, has the phenomenon of contrary to the ethical principles unconscious. Lacking of reflection on professional ethics, students pay too much attention on the reflection of the professional knowledge and skills while are neglect of reflection on professional ethics in the practicum reflection. Finally, about the ethical decision making, the ethical decision making is lack of professionalism. Students in the face of ethical issues, ethical dilemmas do not know how to solve while usually solve those as a universal moral standards.The second main part of this paper is the study on the reason of the current situation of the ethic action of the MSW students in practicum. For above performance, the reasons are mainly due to the following aspects. About the ethic awareness, the lack of professional ethics education leads to lack of knowledge of professional ethics. Professional supervision deficiency leads to weak professional sensitivity. About the ethic judgment, administrative obstacles makes the practicum institutions cannot provide good practice environment for the students. The practicum institutions’own professional ethics awareness is not strong enough and pay less attention on practice students. Students themselves have not enough emphasis on professional ethics. About the ethical decision making, the conflict between the Western Professional Ethics and Chinese localization moral code has its infusions.In the final, this paper raises some targeted recommendations for improvement, in order to promote the professional development and the construction of high-quality social work team of professionals.
