Work-study as a part of the college students’ social practice, not only alleviates thefinancial difficulty and spiritual vacuum of the students, but also plays an important role inthe cultivation of comprehensive ability of the students. From the existing researchmaterials, most researchers focus on the qualitative study and pay less attention to theempirical study about work-study, especially about the higher vocational college’swork-study. While the article uses the questionnaire and SPSS statistical analysis method.Its aim is to explore the present situation of the higher vocational college’s work-study anddiscuss the existing problems and solutions, thus enriching the education practice theoriesof the higher vocational college.According to the literature research and the interview data, the paper considers thatthe research on the higher vocational college’s work-study should contain the following sixaspects: work-study position setting; the motivation of students participating in work-study;the effectiveness of work-study; the relationship between job and study; the rightprotection of the students; the satisfaction evaluation to the school. Base on the abovestructure, the author designs the work-study questionnaire and distributes thequestionnaires to the higher vocational colleges’ students in Suzhou. The specific researchresults are as follows:1. The students mainly work off-campus and the monthly income gap between them islarge. The students express that they lack of job opportunities and their job category islabor-intensive. In addition, most of the students get the recruitment information from theirfriends or teachers and half of them work more than eight hours every week.2. The motivation of the students participating in work-study primarily is to enrich lifeexperience, increase employment opportunities and cultivate comprehensive ability, etc.The students’ work-study motivation shows significant difference between family location,grade, family income, weekly working hours, work-study income and single-child. 3. The students think that work-study plays an important role in knowing the society,cultivating their independent ability, yet can’t make farther development of learning. Theutility of the work-study shows significant difference between sex and grade.4. The students say that they usually can’t get paid on time or face with heavyworkloads, etc. when encountering the above problems, more than the third of the studentschoose to submit to humiliation.5. The students’ satisfaction about the school’s management in work-study is not high.Meanwhile, the satisfaction of the school’s work-study management shows significantdifference between sex, family location, grade, work-study location and single-child.Based on the above analysis, the article concludes that there are still some problemsabout the work-study, such as unreasonable position setup, imperfect student rightsprotection mechanism, unsound school work-study management system, etc. In order tosolve the problems, the author comes up with the solution strategy that the functionmechanism with the government, society, schools and individuals should be established.
