With the implementation of the new curriculum standard and further educationreform, the biology teaching has come to a more open and deeper stage. The newcurriculum standard emphasizes on the dominant position of students, whichrequires them to take active participation in teaching activities, and to experience theappropriate process and methods while having a comprehensive grasp of scientificknowledge. Middle school students, as a special age group, have their particularpsychological characteristics. How to improve the efficiency of teaching fitting theirpsychological characteristics is an unavoidable and important problem facing everyteacher. This study is under the background of teaching reform in new situation. Thethesis aims at learning about the degree of correlation between the psychologicalcharacteristics of middle school students and the efficiency of teaching and tries tofind out the relevant psychological factors influencing the efficiency of teaching. Thenit develops some pointed measures improving the efficiency of biology teaching,hoping that they can benefit all the teachers in biology teaching in the future.Aftergiving the definition of the psychological characteristics of middle school students,the thesis illustrates the basic theories, and introduces the study situation at homeand abroad. At the body of the thesis, it mainly introduces the measures suitable tomiddle school students’ psychological characteristics and specific examplesconcerning with them: cultivating interest and increasing motivation. Such measuresinvolve taking flexible teaching methods in accordance with students’ physical andpsychological characteristics, developing subjective initiative and advocating casestudy, respecting the differences among students’ characteristics, following students’cognitive characteristics, developing beneficial study methods, evaluating studentsfrom different aspects and stimulating their sense of satisfaction, and meetingstudents’ emotional needs and building harmonious atmosphere in class. In the end,the thesis raises some problems during the implementation and provides somesuggestion on further study. This study, taking the reality in the school intoconsideration, applies students’ psychological characteristics to the biology teaching in middle schools. During the study, we have surveyed students of grade nine in ourschool, and we have collated and processed the data. By our analysis of the result ofthe survey, we have found that students’ psychological characteristics affect theefficiency of biology teaching. The learning habits, maturity, thinking characteristics,motivation and sense of satisfaction turn out to be significantly correlated withteaching efficiency. We believe that following students’ psychological characteristicscan improve the efficiency of biology teaching. Only by that way can we really realizethe people-oriented and all-for-students teaching.
