As an effective mode of psychotherapy, Satir family therapy has been vigorously promoted all over the world. The treatment mode, which is based on the concept of humanism, aims to improve interpersonal relationships, to improve self-esteem, to achieve internal and external harmony of body and mind. Coping Stances is belong to an important concept in Satir family therapy model, which has a very strong inner link with a person’s self-esteem and interpersonal relationship. In practice, the coping stances’change can cause a person’s inner change. But now, the Satir-related research is very few, the study of Satir coping stances is much rarer. Therefore, this research mainly focus on Satir Coping Stances. Based on the theory of communication, we develop a new Coping Stances Scale, which is suitable for ordinary people to use, expand the use and flexibility of the scale, test the reliability and validity of the new scale. With the new scale, we discusses the correlation between self-esteem and coping stances, further to demonstrate the validity of Satir theory. In addition, we use coping stances as the intermediary factors between self-esteem and interpersonal relationship to enrich the theoretical research of self-esteem and interpersonal relationship.According to the operational definition and the Satir stances theory, we prepare a preliminary Satir Coping Stance Scale, basing on preliminary theoretical construction, experts discussion and the small sample test. According to the sample data of804students from the Southwest University, we form the Satir Coping Stances, SCS, which includes four subscales. There are total47items, consisting of6items of placating subscale,8items of blaming subscale,6items of being super-reasonable subscale,9items of being irrelevant subscale. In addition, we use the Rosenberg’s self-esteem scale and Taiwan scholar Wang Shengxian’human relationships scale, to explore the relationship of coping stances, self-esteem and interpersonal relationship. The research gets some conclusions as follows:(1) The Satir Coping Stances Scale has good reliability and validity which can be used as an effective measurement of people’s coping stances.(2) In general, college students don’t tend to use these four inconsistent coping stances. There is a significant difference on gender, boys tend to use blaming, super-reasonable, irrelevant coping stance than girls; there is a significant difference in grade, graduate students tend to use blaming coping stances, but senior students tend to use placating coping stances.(3) There is a significant negative correlation between the four inconsistent coping stances and self-esteem.(4) There is a significant negative correlation between the four inconsistent coping stances and interpersonal relationship.(5) There is a significant positive correlation between self-esteem and interpersonal relationship.(6) the four inconsistent coping stances have a partial intermediary effect between self-esteem and interpersonal relationship.
