"Parent-Child Reading" originated from the New Zealand, then it is gradually adopted and put into practice by other counties. However, in ancient China, there were some sentences concerning about the "Parent-Child Reading". For example,"It is better to give children a book than much money", which emphasizes the importance of leading children to read. Nowadays, researches at home and abroad indicate that the model role of parents and great reading atmosphere at home are two key factors which are beneficial for children to form the habit of reading. Children whose parents love reading will also be attracted by books. As a result, parents should make good use of free time for reading to set a good example for their children. Moreover, the concept of "Parent-Child Reading" was abstracted from the interaction between children and parents, then most studies on "Parent-Child Reading" focus on the children during the pre-school period, with seldom studies on students in primary school. Nevertheless, with the prominent importance of reading, the primary school begins to organize reading activities, including parent-child reading activities.The emotional communication which is based on reading with parents is indispensable to children’s development and helpful for children’s cultivation of reading habit. However, parent-child reading in primary school should be more than this, with the emphasis on the improvement of reading ability. Professor Jeanne S. Chall in Harvard put forward "Theory on Reading Development", which divides the reading ability into five stages, from beginning to maturity. According to the theory, grade2and3in elementary school is an important period for students to develop a fluent reading and understanding. Therefore, it should be seized and used by parents as well as teachers to train the reading ability of students, aiming to lay a solid foundation for future study. Then, the coordinated efforts of parents and teachers are necessary. Meanwhile, a great amount of researches on family-school cooperation can be cited in the studies of parent-child reading.The goals of the research are to raise strategies for promoting parent-child reading in primary school by making an investigation on a primary school in Banan district, which has organized parent-child activities for ages. Then make these strategies popularized.This article is composed of five sections.Introduction is about a general overview on parent-child reading in primary school. Firstly, research background is stated from the perspectives of the necessity and urgency of parent-child reading in primary school. Secondly, theoretical significance and practical value of parent-child reading in primary school are presented. Last, the related concepts are defined.The first chapter, a general overview on related researches at home and abroad. The literature is categorized as four parts, parent-child reading, family-school cooperation, parent-child reading on the basis of family-school cooperation as well as the shortage of researches.The second chapter is about the research project, which is divided into four parts, research methods, research contents, research ideas and research innovation.The third chapter, grasp the information on the current situation of parent-child reading activities through interviews. Then by minutely dissecting the factors which have an influence on the parent-child reading in primary school can we discover the existing problems.The fourth chapter, research on strategies for promoting parent-child reading in primary school. Strategies are put forward according to the analysis of existing problems.Reflection and outlook. To realize and discover the shortage of the research by reflection, which is helpful for future researches. To expect more attention on parent-child reading in primary school and more researches on it, which is beneficial for providing a good reading circumstance and necessary guidance for students.
