Special education is an important part of China’s basic education, special children’seducation level affects the level of the whole basic education directly and determines the stateof survival and development of the children in the society. It has been a hundred years aboutthe history of the blind and the deaf, However,the education of the retarded children didn’tdevelop until1979.Literacy teaching is an important content of Chinese teaching for retarded children.Learning to read is the beginning of learning Chinese. It is also the basics of learning othersubjects for retarded children as well as a necessaty for retarded children.The literacyteaching in current school mainly concentrated on the following teaching methods,such asconcentrated litaracy,the spread litaracy,the story litaracy,Pinyin typing etc. It is difficult toarouse the students’ interest in literacy teaching, It is very important for the low-gradestudents to arouse the interest of retarded children’ litaracy learning to make them feel happyin litaracy learning.It is a problem as well as a difficult task for the retarded children’steaching.There is a developing goal in finding the best way for the children with mentaldiability to improve their litaracy learning eficiency.It is because children with mildintellectual disability has some certain phisical defects which keep their thinking in a longterm concrete image thinking stage making them have some difficulty in litaracylearning.Song is a popular genre for children.The language of songs is vivid and concise andits content is straightaway and harmonious with a strong sense of rhythm which is easy toread for children.This kind of language is fit for students’ physical and psychological as wellas their litaracy learning characteristics which can help students develop litaracy learningconfidence.teachers can bring the suitable songs into the mentally retarded children’s litaracyteaching to make them fit for chinese litaracy teaching.It is also a new try in children’slitaracy teaching to stimulate students’ learning interest by way of reading,reciting andmaking songs.This research has been conducted in a school of Zibo City in Shandong Province throughobervation and interviews.In mental retarded school,we found that language teachers oftensuffer from a lack of teaching resouces and they don’t have the proper teaching methods.Theauthor has introduced the teaching methods to this school and discussed with the chinese teachers based on this kind of problem.They have analysed the feasibility and teachingmodes of songs in mental retardation students teaching.The teaching has conducted20classteaching practice by choosing class one of intelligence retarded and teaching content.Thisarticle is to discuss the relationship between the nursery rhymes and the literacy teaching ofretarded children in three aspects:the significance of the nursery rhymes in retarded children’slitaracy teaching, the principle of retarded children’s litaracy teaching by learning nurseryrhymes,the implementation of retarded children’s litaracy teaching by by learning nurseryrhymes.
