Preschool childhood from 0 to 6 is the most important period for language learning, which plays an important role in life. In language education, providing various language practice for pre-school children can promote their language ability effectively. Nursery rhymes, the first literary language models with which pre-school children come into contact, have become the most favorite literature style of children because of their concise language, vivid rhymes, bright rhythm and exquisite significance. In addition, nursery rhymes have also become the best model and materials for preschool children to study and develop their language. Thus, how to promote language ability of pre-school children through nursery rhymes is a topic worthy of study and discussion.Most researches of nursery rhymes proceed from the view of literature, while the thesis, based on the characteristics of physiology, psychology, linguistic development and language acquisition of pre-school children, analyses nursery rhymes from the view of linguistics.This thesis summarizes the styles and characteristics of nursery rhymes and points out the feasibility of teaching nursery rhymes for pre-school children. And it also analyzes the linguistic features of nursery rhymes, such as their pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, techniques of expression and so on.Based on the study of linguistic features of nursery rhymes, this thesis demonstrates the relation between nursery rhymes and the development of language of pre-school children. With examples of linguistic learning and language environment creation, nursery rhymes can promote logic thinking, sense of language and creativity of language using, thus promoting the development of language of pre-school children through cultivating listening habits, interest stimulation, pronunciation training and vocabulary expansion. This thesis illustrates that nursery rhymes have a dimensional, all-round and comprehensive function in developing language ability of pre-school children.The thesis ponders how to develop pre-school children's language ability by nursery rhyme teaching, and makes certain discussion of the strategies of teaching nursery rhymes as well.
