The employment of college students’ is a key issue for students self, their family and the wholesociety, also is a hot topic in people’s livelihood, so the Party and State leaders have paid muchattention to this problem. The Fifth Plenum of the17thCentral Committee of the Communist Partyof China was convened in2011, the plenum pointed out that to have a priority on promotion ofemployment in economic and social development, putting emphasis on solving the employmentproblem of undergraduates based on the scientific outlook development. Nowadays, industrialstructure is under reconstructure domestically and the economic situation abroad is not so optimistic,which caused a bad time for job-hunting. So the government, society and universities or collegesare trying hard to help students find employments successfully.Form micro angle, this essay made a detailed analysis on undergraduates’ human capital andsocial capital factors to show what the effects that these two factors have on the employmentqualitatively. In the part of human capital, two levels-one is the employer, another is universitieshave been distinct to prove how these factors have effect on employment; in social factors, thewriter elaborated the positive and side effect when “formal regulations” are deficient. The academiafocus less on the coupling effect and the relationship of these two factors when doing researches,this essay filled in this gap.Learning from relative theories on human and social capital and combined with the writer’sown research, the writer extracted a series of index about these two factors. In the empirical part,quantitative analysis was made on these indexes. The results are: an individual with higher qualityare much more easily find their initial job with higher starting salary, which different indexed havedifferent degree of influence on employment; weak relations are of great importance on acquiringjob information for those graduates students, and then, after the employers got information, theywill find suitable jobs by strong or indirect relations around them.Some advice to the students, universities and government is presented on the basis of this study.First, university students, the subjects of employment, should exploit the four-year time in school toculture themselves, to accumulate human capital and expand social capital. Then, the universitiesand colleges, the providers of educational service, should make innovation on the talents cultivationmodel, make perfection on employment guidance mechanism, hoping to cultivate students’ correct concepts in finding jobs. Finally, the government should build a fair competition employmentenvironment and reform the household register system; optimize the policy for certain specialpositions and increase and guide human capital investment.
