The facility planning for inbound logistics of automobile parts is one of thenecessary ways to improve the quality and level of logistics service and meet the needsof the lean supply chain management. Considering the characteristics of inboundlogistics of automobile parts with high degree of complexity, supply chain coordinationand efficiency of distribution, this paper takes a try to perfect and improve the abilitylevel of logistics facilities by using automated warehouse technology. Meanwhile, ittakes a case study of the automated warehouse planning and design based on the actualsituation of an auto parts logistics company named Company Y.The paper gives an analysis on the modes and characteristics of inbound logistics ofauto parts and summarizes the main parts and the technical superiority of the automatedwarehouse. Then it provides the selection principle of automated warehouse equipmentaccording to the requirements of the auto parts inbound logistics facility planning ofCompany Y. Those main equipments as well as related parameters are determined, i.e.,the shelf, cargo space layout, work bin location number, stacker and transportationequipment. This paper mainly performs the overall planning of the automated warehouseincluding analyzing the storage process, determining the layout scheme and the functionof warehouse management system. Capacity verification of warehouse is done by threeaspects as the location and size of each functional zone, storage capacity, and the abilityof the ins and outs of warehouse. Finally, the economic effects of the automatedwarehouse project are evaluated by three indexes as the payback period, net present valueand internal rate of return.The research outcomes of this paper offered the reference about technology andeconomy feasibility analysis for the practical application of automated warehouse in autoparts logistics facilities planning.
