At present, coal mine accidents have occurred frequently, once the accident occured,there are many trouble for the rescue operations to trapped person if we could not accuratelylocated the exact location of underground person. This paper introduces a positioningsystem for underground mine personal based on ZigBee protocols, which achieved thepositioning of underground personnel. It is available to provide abundant data andgraphical information. It is also able to monitor the real-time underground minepersonnel and work out the number of them and their distribution. If accidents occur,the specific distribution of the underground mine personnel at the time of occurrencecan be quickly searched so as to work out prompt and effective emergency measures.The network system satisfies the requirements of positioning for underground minewireless close-range personnel. It is characterized as low cost, easiness to set up anduse.This paper describes the relevant information of the wireless sensor network andZigBee technology, and a brief description of the system development platform. Thepaper also introduces the overall design of the personnel positioning system, thehardware system design, and the host computer design program, and discusses the mainchip’s architecture and communications program. Finally, in lab environment, theprogram carried out simulation tests and achieved the desired experimental results.
