Recently,there is a boom in urbanization and motorization in China andaccompanied with the satisfaction of increasing trip demand, urban problems suchas traffic congestion, vehicle emission pollution and traffic accidents areexposed,especially for the large cities. Unlimited expandation of land scale for largecities will arouse the tension of landuse as well as severe internal friction of trafficsystem. Hence, it’s an urgent task for decision-makers and researchers in relatedareas to resolve the unsustainable predicaments of large cities.Therefore, relatedanalysis is conducted from the perspective of coping with the stress of the largecities and moderately developing small and medium-sized cities in themeanwhile.Researches on the improvement methods for traffic conditon andoptimization of trip mode structure in small and medium-sized cities which aimed atenhancing apeal of small and medium-sized cities is conducted and the research ismaily focus on solving the problems including the lack of traffic infrastructure, theunreasonable trip mode structure and the low LOS of traffic systems in small andmedium-sized cities.To analyze the influencing factors of the trip mode structure,18samples ofsmall and medium-sized cities are chosen according to the newest definitionstandard for small and medium-sized cities combined with the index of the densityfor urban road networks. The possible influencing factors from6aspects are chosenand key influencing factors are selected through grey correlativity analysis.After the selection of key influencing factors, a model of influencing factorswhich may provide theoretical basis for the intervention for trip mode structure ofsmall and medium-sized cities is constructed by partial least square method.Furthermore,the problems of present trip mode structure of small andmedium-sized cities are analyzed and the enlightenment of the development in tripmode structure of large cities in China and small and medium-sized cities abroad isput forward.Then, the ideal trip mode structure of small and medium-sized cities isput forward based on the situation of China and the analysis mentioned before.To quantificationally analyze the reasonable trip mode structure of the smalland medium-sized cities, the impacts of urban traffic system are devided intopositive impacts and negative impacts,4index to describe the impacts of urbantraffic system are chosen and the weight of each index is analyzed by AHP.The index can be described as the functions of trip mode structure and aoptimization model for the trip mode structure of small-medium is constructed withthe maximum of the impacts of urban traffic system as the optimized target, the traffic demand, environmental capacity, energy consumption limit and trippreferences as constraint.Last but not the least,the central city of ZunYi is chosen as a case of small andmedium-sized cities.The rational trip mode structure of ZunYi in2015isquantitatively analyzed under the instruction of immediate planning of ZunYi,andintervention strategy for trip mode structure is put forward taking advantage of themodel of influencing factors.
