Network planning technology which is introduced into China by Prof. Hua Luogeng in1960s, has been widely applied in both production and living, especially in engineeringconstruction project management. Nowadays, with the advancement of science andtechnology and the development of social productivity, the investment amounts of modernengineering construction project are enlarged and construction technique becomes morecomplicated. This results in the situation that traditional methods of project managementcannot meet the current demands. While some construction enterprises have adopted thetechnology of project network plan, some issues still exist, such as leaders’ neglect to thistechnology, lower management level and lack of professionals. Some measures are needed totake to change the status. The construction management system should be regulated andimproved, and more professionals trained. Following that above, the technology of projectnetwork plan can exert the largest effects and the project construction quality can beguaranteed.At first, this thesis systematically describes the origin of project network planningtechnology, research status at home and abroad, research background and review of the basictheory. One of the most popular schedule control methods in network plan, Critical PathMethod (CPM), is presented in detail. The CPM, which expresses the progress of eachactivities and the relationship among them by using the form of network chart, forecasts theproject duration through the analysis that which activity sequence costs the least time and thenidentifies key work and key route. It is a dynamic system which is constantly updated with theprogress of project, adjusted and optimized by means of time difference. The CPM hasbecome the most common method in the technology of project network plan as its key workand key route character.Then it describes how to establish network plan and the function of network planningtechnology on progress plan management, project duration and cost claim, resource costmanagement and project benefit. Following that, specific implement processes of theoptimization of project duration, cost and resource are obtained through the theory on networkplanning optimization technology.At last, the application of network planning technology in the engineering projectmanagement is explained in detail through a specific case. It includes the project preparatorystage, the establishment of the construction organizing design, the compilation basis of network plan.Through theoretical analysis and specific case, the importance of network plan to theengineering project management is interpreted specifically. The project progress can becontrolled with the network plan and various unknown factors can be dealt with by thedynamic controlled network plan to guarantee the successful implementation of the project.There is no doubt that the project network plan has reference value and significant role inengineering.
