As a leading force, the vehicle performance of a forest fire fighting truck is directly related to the level of fighting efficiency. Research on the performance of a forest fire fighting truck is important for fighting forest fires and can improve fire-fighting efficiency. As the important vehicle performance indicators-dynamic and fuel economy, are closely related to the reasonable match of vehicle powertrain. The paper studies the powertrain evaluation of a forest fire fighting truck, that is dynamic performance and fuel economy performance evaluation indicators. By conducting performance tests on BJ5030XZH27small forest fire fighting truck, including engine performance test, glide test, dynamic performance test and fuel economy performance test, we can get curves of the engine performance, maximum speed, maximum gradeability, acceleration shift time on start, fuel economy parameters and so on.The fire fighting truck was built with GT-DRIVE software platform to simulate the operating conditions, and the model simulation results were analyzed, contrast dynamic performance and fuel economy performance of the truck as follows:the simulation of maximum speed is132.281km/h, the simulation of maximum gradeability is33.02°, the simulation of acceleration shift time on start is29.3208s; At rated engine speed, the fuel consumption simulation of traveling one hundred kilometers with equal speed value on gear IV or V is9.5L/100km or12.4L/100km. Simulation value, theory calculations and experimental values were within the permissible range, and the simulation results and experimental results are in good agreement. The GT-DRIVE model of a fire fighting truck is reliable, which is applicated for simulating the dynamic performance of engines and fuel economy performance well. At last, DOE on GT-DRIVE was used to match and optimize its powertrain, and the results are as follows:the original engine4G20B is optimized for4G22B, which increases engine displacement and compression ratio, while increasing the rated power and maximum torque; To optimize its powertrain parameters and get the best power matching program, the main gear transmission ratio increased to4.875, when each transmission gear ratios optimized for3.704/2.139/1.387/1/0.802. After the optimization, the maximum speed is improved to135.581km/h, Max.gradeability is increased to34.99°, acceleration shift time on start is reduced to26.1457s; fuel economy have improved to some extent. Finally the powertrain match of the forest fire fighting truck was completed. So the dynamic performance and fuel economy performance is enhanced further.
