The degree adverbs “Hen(很), Tai(太)” are in common usage in modern Chinese. With theaid of Chinese inter-language corpus, this paper has made an investigation on errors appeared inFilipino and Thai learners use of degree adverbs “Hen(很), Tai(太)”, and revealed the regularitieson errors appeared from the perspective of diachronic.The first chapter is an introduction that introduces the origin, significance, method andcorpus sources. Chapter two summarizes the results of ontology researches and teaching Chineseas a foreign language researches on degree adverbs “Hen(很), Tai(太)”. Based on Chineseinter-language corpus, Chapter three describes errors made by Filipino and Thai learners ondegree adverbs “Hen(很), Tai(太)”. Chapter four presents statistics and analysis of these errors indifferent phases, and analyzes the reasons for these mistakes. The fifth chapter proposes teachingadvices on degree adverbs “Hen(很), Tai(太)”.The results of research demonstrate that from the highest rate of errors to the lowest ondegree adverbs “Hen(很), Tai(太)” are misuse, mis-added, the wrong match and wrong sequence.A most commonly seen error on using degree adverbs “Hen(很)” is the misuse of it with otherdegree adverbs and the modification on paratactic structure by error. A commonly seen error ofdegree adverbs “Tai(太)” is the misuse of it with “Hen(很)” and “Tai(太) Le(了)” structure.Reasons for errors made by Filipino and Thai learners on degree adverbs “Hen(很),Tai(太)” include negative influence of native language, interference from the knowledge oftarget language, compiling problems of teaching materials and reference books, and students’adoptive avoidance strategies etc.When teaching degree adverbs “Hen(很), Tai(太)” to Filipino and Thai learners, we shouldturn students’ difficult points into necessary teaching points, use situational language teachingand contrast teaching methods, strengthen the practice and consolidation, set up exercisewarehouse, and optimize teaching materials and reference books.
