Chinese idioms are frequently used like proverbs and set phrases. Many foreigners are interested in learning Chinese idioms because some historic and cultural factors are obtained in these idioms. They are also the important and difficult points in teaching Chinese as a second language field because of the special structure and the flexible meaning. The compiling of the textbook is indispensable for the teaching. A good textbook could help to arouse the students’interest and to improve the efficiency of the class teaching so that strengthens the language comprehensive and expressing ability of the students finally.The paper first investigates the Chinese idioms in three textbooks, including the amount, the syllable form and the grammatical structure of the idioms. The coincidence degree of the textbooks is checked compared with the teaching syllabus in teaching Chinese as a second language. According to the feature of the idioms and the designing theory of the textbooks compiling, the compiling of the textbooks is investigated through the topics, explaining examples and practice. Some thoughts are shown in the paper, when choose the Chinese idioms, the idioms should include many kinds of syllable forms and grammatical structure and the three-syllables and verb-object styles should be more than other kinds; when compile the textbooks, many kinds of topics, both single-sentences and dialogue examples, both comprehensive and communicative practice should be included.
