As a dynasty established by northern nomads, Northern Wei Dynasty had harmonious and simple custom, and knew little about the development of Buddhism. However, Northern Wei Dynasty had become the center of Buddhism through the construction of generation ever since the dynasty moved to Ping Cheng. This article will attempt to figure out the question of where the Buddhism of Northern Wei Dynasty came from, how it developed and what feature it presented to us from the angle of history and geography. The main content based on the arrangement of the elements of Ping Cheng Buddhism faith and analysis of other geographical feature, and explores the feature of Ping Cheng Buddhism.The article consists of six parts. The first part analyses the background of Ping Cheng Buddhism from beginning to thriving. The second part investigates Buddhism temples distribution, evolution, building system and so on. The part three clears out the building time, the distribution and the existing scale of cave temples. The part four arranges the event of eminent monk in Ping Cheng and analyses it. The chapter five discusses the feature of Ping Cheng Buddhism. The part six analyses the geographical factors of Ping Cheng developing the center of Buddhism, from natural and cultural perspectives.
