A Report On The Simulated Simultaneous Interpretation Of Lars Haue Pedersen's Speech At The 2017 World Sports And Tourism Summit In Yangzhou Based On The Effort Model

Simultaneous interpreting conveys a message into another language at virtually the same moment in time as it is expressed in the first language.With further expansion of international communication and the increasing trend of globalization,the number of international conferences is dramatically increasing at home and abroad.The demand for the service of the simultaneous interpreting is increasing and also the requirements for its quality are getting higher towards international standards.In the actual process of simultaneous interpreting practice,the interpreter has to complete a highly complex activity of bilingual transformation in a very tense situation,requiring the interpreter to handle the tasks of listening,memorizing and production at the same time.Therefore,the interpreter must allocate his or her brain power properly to balance these multiple tasks.This report has made a simulated interpretation of Lars Haue Pedersen's speech at the 2017 World Sport Events and Tourism Summit.With the assistance of such interpreting strategies as syntactic linearity,anticipation,omission and simplification,this report aims at exploring the roles of Daniel Gile's(1995)effort model through a case analysis.Through this simulated simultaneous interpreting practice,it is concluded that Gile's(1995)effort model has facilitated the author in distributing her brain power properly by relieving the high pressure and bringing her interpreting knowledge,skills,and potential into full play.Meanwhile,the adopted strategies have also assisted the author reducing the number of mistakes like wrong or missing interpretations,saving time by focusing on the main language points and sentence structures of the source language,and improving her interpretation quality by predicting what will be conveyed by the speaker based on his linguistic and extra-linguistic features.
