With the enhancement of Chinese international influence, there’s a global Chinese learning boom. More and more foreigners are eager to learn Chinese and comprehend China’s culture, but the distinctive Chinese characters make them feel fear and hesitate to move forward. Many learners think Chinese is difficult to learn, especially the characters. In contrast with the character’s difficulty, Pinyin is easy to learn and use, so many learners appear over-reliance on Pinyin and acquire characters very slowly. This phenomenon seriously limits the learners’ literacy development and brings a great negative impact on their Chinese proficiency. But this problem has not been given sufficient attention in the field of academic study, the research about phonetic impact on character acquisition is very limited. In order to study this problem, we interview teachers and students by questionnaires in Guangxi University, and analyze textbooks and the conventional teaching methods used in the primary stage, try to find the performance of Pinyin over-reliance on Chinese character acquisition, evaluate its impact, and look for the causes of this phenomenon. On this basis, we put forward some feasible teaching countermeasures. Besides the introduction and conclusion sections, the paper’s core content includes four parts. The first part is the necessary introductions about the research objects——Pinyin and Chinese character and the relationship between them. The second part is the empirical study of the thesis, by teachers’ interview, students’questionnaire, and textbook analysis and teaching methods analysis, we conduct a full range of follow-up survey of the problem.Based on the empirical researches, the third part gives a definition to the problem and analyzes its difference with natural transition, elaborates its performance and adverse effect, then tries to find out the causes from three angles:teaching mode and materials, teaching methods and student learning methods. Based on the studies, the fourth part gives five teaching suggestions in Pinyin and characters transition.Through all research above, we aim to explore better teaching methods of pinyin and character, and provide some useful reference for the primary stage of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
