Confucius Institute is a non-profit public institution teaching Chinese anddissemination of Chinese culture. Since the first Confucius Institute was set up in theSouth Korean capital Seoul in2004, there are358Confucius Institutes and500Confucius Classrooms founded in105countries and regions up to January2012.Confucius Institutes were established in less than a decade, with the aim to promotethe national language and cultural experience in target countries. They combined withthe actual situation of each country, and developed their own teaching model.Antananarivo Confucius Institute was founded in2009, and has developed intoan important communication platform for the people of Madagascar to understandChina, to expand the scale of teaching, and training local teachers. However, with theimplementation of the teaching activities, some problems exposed in teaching objects,curriculum, teaching materials and teachers. This paper focuses on the teaching modelthe Confucius Institute in Antananarivo, through questionnaires and interviews withthe teachers and students of the Confucius Institute, combined with the actualsituation of each teaching point, and based on second language acquisition theory. Atthe same time, this study also reviewed successful teaching models in other Chineselanguage teaching institutions, analyzed the actual situation in AntananarivoConfucius Institute, and explored the appropriate teaching model there in order topromote Chinese language teaching in Madagascar better.This thesis is divided into six parts:Introduction: The present research background, the necessity and significance ofthe research.Chapter one: Literature review. this chapter begins with the research background,the model of teaching Chinese as a foreign language teaching model and Chineseteaching and learning in different countries to be reviewed. Finally, the thesis researchmethods were introduced.Chapter two: Survey of Teaching in Antananarivo Confucius Institute. WeInterviewed teachers and students of the Confucius Institute about the object ofteaching, curriculum, teaching and learning environment, teachers and teaching materials in the Confucius Institute, and analyzed the data from the survey.Chapter three: Summary and comparative analysis of teaching model inAntananarivo Confucius Institute. It summed up the characteristics and the problemsin the teaching model in the Confucius Institute, and used the experience of otherChinese language teaching institutions teaching model, and proposed individualizedand flexible teaching model.Chapter four: Recommendations of the development of the Confucius Institute.Recommendations from a macro point of view on the long-term development of theConfucius Institute were proposed.Conclusion: conclusion of this study.
