With the increasing development of China’s International status and overall national strength, China is playing a crucial role on the International stage. The convening of the18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has attached worldwide attention, and the C-E translation of the report has great influence on the national image, the purpose of the Party and the spirit of the meeting. This topic research is aimed at analyzing "Report to the18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (NCCPC)" from the perspective of German Functionalist Translation Theory. By studying the C-E translation of the report, I will explore the strategy and method of political documents of this kind, explain my own views and share my feelings, thoughts and inspirations in the process of paper writing. Meanwhile, I will also point out the inadequacy of the paper. I hope that my paper would make some contribution to the translation of political documents and provide reference and guidance for the translation of this kind.This report is composed of four chapters. Chapter1gives an overall introduction to the translation report, including background information, objective, significance of the translation project and structure of the translation report. Chapter2casts a glimpse at the functionalist translation theory, including its development and main points. Chapter3, as the backbone and pivot of the whole report, gives a detailed explanation to the translation methods with specific examples that translator used and the difficulties met in the process of the translation. Chapter4makes a summary of the translation report, shares some of reflections, enlightenments and thoughts with readers and points out the inadequacy of the paper.
