A Reflective Research Report On Translation Of News On Current Affairs

It is well known that international communication between countries becomes morefrequently than before with the rapid development of globalization. After its entry intoWTO, China, as the largest developing country, has more and wider cooperation with othercountries. This process of communication depends on the transmission of information. As acarrier of information, current news plays an important part in transmitting information.The thesis aims to carry out a retrospective research report on the basis of some of my owntranslation of news on current affairs at home and abroad. The current news, chosen as asource text, covers such aspects as politics, economy, military affairs, social life, which arenews reports from main newspaper or website, such as, Sina News, China Daily and so on.The thesis, firstly, analyzes the importance of current news. Besides, the source textand rich contents of news reports are introduced and analyzed briefly. Then the relevantconcepts of news are analyzed so as to sum up the characteristics of news on current affairswhich contribute to a better understanding of the translation methods and the theoryadopted in translation. Secondly, the author reviews the process of translation and pointsout difficult parts in translation and then puts forward some solutions. The core part of thethesis is the fourth part, which makes detailed analyses of the translation methods, used inmy translation from the perspective of Skopos theory and domesticating translation. Thesix translation methods adopted in my translation are the domestication in Englishtranslation of the Chinese culture-loaded word, the amplification in Chinese-Englishtranslation, the conversion used in English target text, the tactic adoption of combination ofseveral translation methods, the methods for long sentence translation, and the accuratetranslation of some technical terms. The last part is the conclusion of the thesis, whichreviews and concludes the process of my translation and makes a comment on mytranslation experience. So the advantages and shortcomings of the author’s translation arefound respectively, which will help to improve my study and practice of translation in thefuture. It is also hoped that the thesis is helpful to other translators.
