Have analyzed the "run" corpus in Peking University Corpus, we found that, there are at least14meaning items of "run" in modern Chinese. Unfortunately, there are only6meaning items in Modern Chinese Dictionary (6th Edition,2012).In addition, by induction and qualitative analysis, we also found that there are another two problems of "run" in Modern Chinese Dictionary:Improper interpretation and incomplete words. In the presence of a large number of examples, eight new meaning items are set up, a meaning item is adjusted and certain words are supplemented. At the same time, we also try to research on Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language of "run", and hope to help foreign learners with the acquisition of "run".The thesis is divided into six parts.Introduction:We have reviewed of academic research, to clarify the academic sense of core words in the dictionary studies. Finally, the paper also introduces corpus sources, research methods and so on.Chapter One:We extract the corpus of "run"(44,468, about200million words) from the Peking University Corpus totally in order to establish the core database of this thesis. Then we analyze the relevant corpus one by one and make meaning items tagging.Chapter Two:We make detailed description of14meaning items distribution of "run" in Modern Chinese. Then we make the14meaning items with qualitative analysis and statistical frequency. As a reference, we provide the factual basis of the proposed amendments for Modern Chinese Dictionary.Chapter Three:The definitions of "run" in Modern Chinese Dictionary are debatable:Improper interpretation, incomplete meaning items and incomplete words. Through analysis and demonstration, it is recommended that Modern Chinese Dictionary should add up to eight new meaning items, amend an existing meaning item and supply several words.Chapter Four:According to "Peking Language and Culture University Corpus" and "Self-set Corpus", we analyze the types and causes of bias about "run" of foreign students. As a starting point, we design "Sort of Meaning Items","Point-to-Area Coherence","Ladder Approach" and "Vocabulary Consolidated" on vocabulary teaching methods, providing a reference of "run" for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.Conclusion:We make a conclusion and indicate the direction of future development.
