Vocabulary Study On"Guangling Tide"

Guangling Tide is a famous social condemnation novel during the period of Late Qingand Early Republic of China. This work reflects significant changes of social life during thisperiod in Yangzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, Shanghai and other places, so the language of it has thevery strong time and regional color.In the period of Late Qing and Early Republic of China, the language is in thedevelopment from latter-day Chinese to contemporary Chinese transition stage. On the aspectof vocabulary, Guangling Tide reflects the characteristics of lexicology history, which makesthe work with a larger vocabulary research value. On this work, the results of the presentstudy are mainly focused on the two aspects of thought and literature, and this paper is thefirst attempt to systematically study on the Guangling Tide vocabulary.This paper is divided into five parts on the discussion:The first part is "introduction". This chapter introduces the object, the present situation,the content, methods and the value of the study.The second part is "the overview of vocabulary on Guangling Tide ". In this chapter,according to the lexical features of the work, we regard100times as the critical wordfrequency. The vocabulary of the work is divided into two parts of high frequency words andnon-high-frequency words, and then we enumerate and analyze the two parts according to theparts of speech. In the high-frequency words part, we mainly make further analysis to thecharacteristic words of the work in nouns, verbs and adverbs and in the non-high-frequencywords part, we make a detailed inspection on the nouns related to daily life and the political,economy and culture of society on the basic of enumerating and study in accordance withparts of speech, and then we further analyze the lexical features of the work and achieve acomprehensive understanding of the vocabulary system of Guangling Tide.The third part is "appellation words research of Guangling Tide ". This chapter mainlystudies how the characters refer to each other, others or themselves in the session ofGuangling Tide, and then reveals the characteristics of the appellative expressions of thereflection on human relationships, attitudes or emotions. Combined with the appellativecharacteristics of Guangling Tide, we divided the appellations in the work into four categoriesseparately to study, including kinship, kinship terms, self-depreciatory terms and identityname. In each category, we sort, sequence and list the specific appellations of characters used in communication in the work, and analyze and identify their semantics, summarize theirscopes of application and the rules of the using, and then we complete the review of eachappellation from the perspective of culture.The forth part is "the research of dialect words, loanwords and archaisms in GuanglingTide". The usage of a large number of dialect words, loanwords and archaisms is a majorlanguage feature of Guangling Tide. On the dialect words, according to the semantic content，we make classification,identify and explain the dialect words which is representative and noteasy to understand in each category. On the loanwords, we divide them into three categories,including western loanwords, Japanese loanwords and Sanskrit loanwords according to thesource of loanwords appearing in the work. By enumerating the typical words, we analyze thecharacteristics of loanwords in the work. On the archaisms, we mainly enumerate and explainthe significance representative words on the historical words, and we enumerate and discussthe overall effects of expression Through the analysis of these words, we have realized thegrasp of its overall appearance.The last part is "Conclusion". We summarize the paper, draw knowledge and inspirationin terms of appellation words, dialect words, loanwords and archaisms on Guangling Tide.We make vocabulary study of special work regarding the "Guangling Tide" as the corpus,and we try to objectively and comprehensively describe the overview of vocabulary, analyzeand interpret the characteristic vocabulary on the work, in the hope of providing somereference value for the study of vocabulary.
